"Teaching people about the world in which we live."
For non-color capable printers only
This material list will let you print out all the provided materials in black and
white. This will aid those of you without color printers. My recommendation
would be that you use the color overhead option in the lesson plan. This would
enable you to print out a black and white copy of the overhead and color in the flags
using the pennants web page as a guide. Then I would also use the alternate
worksheet provided here. It will be different from the color one provided in the
other list of materials.
Black and White Materials List:
- Black and white Worksheet. (1 per student)
- Pennants worksheet answerkey
- Overhead - allow time to color the pennants on this
worksheet
- Overhead of worksheet
- Overhead pens
- Vocabulary worksheet (1 per student)
- Vocabulary worksheet answer key
- Story
- chalk and board or clean transparency
- overhead projector and transparency pens
- Color pens or pencils for the students to use
- Poster paper or butcher block paper (1 piece per every 3 students)
In the outline provided in the Pennants lesson plan substitiute the following
directions for steps 14 and 15.
- Put the overhead that you have colored in on the projector for the class to see.
You may wish to do this as an individual project.
- Tell the class that they will be using this overhead to correctly color in their
worksheets.
- Hand out the worksheet.
- Place your copy of the worksheet on the projector and display it for the students to
see. Go over the first example, with the class, and one of the harder ones if needed.
(You will need to switch back adn forth between the overhead that you colored in
and the worksheet.) Then let the students work the rest of the worksheet on their
own. This should take them about 20 minutes or less. It is always helpful to give the
students a time limit.
